A Birthday Dinner at Heart and Home

Good day to you my blogging friends!  Thank you to the participants of yesterday's Wednesday Gratitude. I appreciate everyone who remembers to join in, and shares the the things they are most thankful for.

Today I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.  This weekend we had a little family get together to celebrate RW's birthday. It's always great to spend time with the rest of the family who live fairly nearby, but we don't see often enough.  Due to everyone's busy schedules we haven't been together since the holidays. I'm glad we had my husband's birthday as an excuse to take some time together and celebrate!

I put together a quick table setting that I felt was light and fresh looking.

I used my favorite green stemware, and white dishes.

I love the color and pattern of the placemats, with those bright red poppies. They are so cheerful looking!

The table is never complete without flowers. White alstromeria lilies brighten up the center in a big white pitcher, and they last a very long time!

I put my apple green, flower-shaped votive holders, and the tin watering can votive holders in the center of the table, with the flowers and some cute, little wire bird cages. I have a spring gardening theme going here!  Since we are all counting the days until spring is finally here, I guess that was on my mind while I was setting the table!

We enjoyed a delicious meal of lasagna, sauteed mushrooms, eggplant and brocolli, a big green salad, and warm, crusty bread. For dessert we had a wonderful white cake with raspberry filling, and chocolate ganache frosting, and fresh raspberries.  I did not want to trip the smoke detectors with the smoke from all the candles on the cake.  I used a representative amount instead! Far kinder for the birthday boy, too! (And, since I'm older, I can't tease him too much!)

We spent a lot of time sitting around the table after we ate, talking and laughing. There was even an impromptu performance given by two of the cousins!  As we sat there, the candles in the wrought iron candleabra hanging above the table burned all the way down.  At least they didn't catch the paper streamer decorations on fire! It was a lovely evening.

I think sharing a relaxing meal with friends and family is one of the most memorable ways to celebrate any special occasion. I love getting the table ready, anticipating the evening ahead.

What is your favorite way to celebrate special occasions? Do you have any special family birthday traditions?  Inquiring minds want to know! So, leave a comment and tell me all about them.

For more tablescapes remember to visit Between Naps on the Porch. And, you can go here, here, and here to see a few more tablescapes at Heart and Home
Thanks for stopping by,
Until next time,
XO
