Feathered Friends of Heart and Home

I'm late getting this posted, but I thought I'd share a few of my favorite feathered friends for Gina at The Shabby Chic Cottage, and also their houses, which I've found mostly around here and in the neighboring woods while out walking. I hadn't realized that I had so many nests until today! I adore that little fat bird, she seems so happy and satisfied, the expression on her face makes her look very content. (For a bird, but what does that mean, really? Maybe she just finished a nice lunch of berries and worms and it's time for her nap??! That would make me content. Well, not the worms but you know what I mean.) I do love this birdcage, it would never be large enough for an actual live bird, but the pretend ones here at my house think it's just fine. Very elegant and refined. Extremely difficult to keep dusted!

These little guys (or are they a couple: a mama and daddy bird?) reside next to a wonderful wire birdcage that I found for a song many years ago. Originally I intended it as a gift for someone. When I got it home I knew it wasn't going anywhere -and I've enjoyed it ever since! Too bad, but my friend was none the wiser and never knew what she lost out on. You're also getting a peek at one of my favorite things: 1940's made in Japan paper-mache' trays, which I'll feature in another post one of these days. I've got a nice collection and I love it!

This shiny little guy was a gift from the writer on my last (traumatic - I had to face it that I really, truly have entered my 5th decade) birthday. She found him in a little antique store downtown and knew he needed to come live at our house. He's sitting with his friend, a cousin of that fat little bird in the first picture, above. Also, those are some more bird's nests I found sitting on the deck a couple of weeks ago. They had been pushed out from their spots under the eaves and were abandoned. I'm thrilled to find nests to add to my collection. They are free, and I admire them, and no two are alike. It's like collecting art, but cheaper!

Well, that's it for the birdies and nests. I enjoyed seeing them from a different perspective, hope you liked them, too. Tweet tweet for now!
Until next time,
XO
Heidi

You have a lovely collection. I have no bird cages. I picked up a cloche with a bird on the top, but did not picture it. I may have to find room for one cage with character.
