If you walked by the garage at our house during the last week or so, you might have wondered what the washbasin filled with water and empty bottles was for.
And what it had to do with the big empty spot in our yard, where the gazebo used to stand.
True to form, I got right to work planning something practical and necessary to the yard.
Before the new fence is put in.
Or the arbor that I want back here is designed and built.
I made a bottle tree!
I used bamboo stakes pounded into the ground, (thanks for the muscle and help, RW!)
and bottles that were cleaned after soaking for a week in soapy water to remove their labels.
The new fence can go in anytime.
Meanwhile, I'm planning one more bottle tree, for a different spot in the yard.
I'll enjoy the sunlight shining through the bottles, keeping the evil spirits away from our house.
And keeping more trees from falling and making big, ugly, empty spots in our yard.
And by the mention of them
at Susan's a while ago.
I'm grateful my family doesn't think I'm crazy, and they support me in my endeavor to "beautify" the surroundings with unusual art installations.
I'm grateful for something so simple that makes me smile.
I'm grateful for the human spirit's innate desire to create art,
and our ability to make something beautiful out of nothing.

Looks like you had alot of fun preparing for that special project - wish we lived closer, LOL!! It's great-looking, and I'm all about positive energy. I also love what you said about our innate desire to create art! I should make a bottle tree under our large pecan tree that we worry about, thank you for the inspiration!

It is so true that beauty is personal and subjective.Every time y husband tells me Angelina Jolie is ugly to him I wonder about it though......probably the only guy on the planet that thinks so....I personally think she is gorgeous! Just like you and your bottle tree!

ReplyDeleteHeidi, I love bottle trees. I remember them from childhood in the Deep South, and I think it's fun that they've made a comeback as folk art. When I had a cactus plant die (yes, I killed it!), I made a bottle tree of my own inside and used tiny old glass Vicks bottles in cobalt blue on it.

ReplyDeleteHeidi.. love your bottle tree,, we have a home near by (you may have seen it on HGTV) it's called the "Bowling Ball House".. they have bottles just like yours all around the yard and the bowling balls are painted all sorts of colors and fence in the yard.. so cool!

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a bottle tree before. It looks great in your yard Heidi! I imagine the sunlight shining through and reflecting is beautiful. And it also does double duty warding off evil spirits.
